1. Account
How do I create an account?
The first step to quenchmark your answers from the web-community is to create your QuenchmarkTM Account!
- Click on the "Sign-Up" link on top right corner
- Enter the required information
- Note that your username cannot be changed, so make it a good one!
- After entering your information, select the "Save" button
I forgot my password or username! What can I do?
Do not fear, QuenchmarkTM forgives you. Simply select the "Forgot Password" link on the login area. Give us the email address that you signed up with, and we will send your password and username to that email.
Is Registration free?
Yes, registration is free!
Can I edit my account?
Yes. First log in, and then select "My Profile" link on the left panel. Under the information on your profile page, click the "Edit Profile" button. Everything can be changed except your user name, make sure it is a good one!
Where can I change my email notification Settings?
First log in, and then select "My Profile" link on the left panel. Under the information on your profile page, click the "Edit Profile" button. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and check the email notification options you desire.
2. Topics
How do I create a Topic?
- Log-in to your account
- On the left panel, select the "Add Topic" Link
- Enter the Topic Title and Description in the fields provided
- Select a Category and Subcategory
- A keyword can be used for an additional description
- The next step prompts you to enter an expiry date. If you leave this field with its default setting, it will create a Topic with no expiry
- Next, you decide whether you want to be the only user to add Questions to your Topic. If so, select the Limited checkbox
- You can limit the people who can view your Topic to those you select by email by creating a Private Topic
- You have the option to add a picture to your Topic
- Finally, you can invite a group of friends to contribute to the topic
- Click "save" button to add your Topic
- If you chose to add a picture, the next page gives you the opportunity to upload the picture of your choice
Who can edit Topics?
Only the Topic Creator can edit Topic details. Note that Topics can still be edited after their expiry date, but Questions and Answers cannot.
What kind of Topics can I create?
There are 3 Topic types that can be used alone or in combination:
- Private/Public: A Private Topic allows only the users invited by the Creator to view the Topic, add Questions and answer Questions.
These Private members will be notified by email that they have been invited to this Topic.
Private Topics can be made public at any time by the Topic Creator.
- Limited/Unlimited: A Limited Topic allows only the Topic Creator to add Questions.
The Topic Creator can make an Unlimited Topic Limited at any time or vice versa.
- Expiry/No Expiry: A Topic can be given an expiry date after which no further Questions or Answers can be added, but data can still be viewed.
The Topic Creator can add, remove, or change the expiry status at any time.
Can a Topic be removed?
Yes, the Topic Creator can remove a Topic at any time. All Questions and Answers will be deleted with it. If you reference data from a Topic regularly, you may wish to copy data to your computer. To delete the Topic:
- Go to the Topic Details and select the "Edit Topic" button
- Then select the "Delete" button on the Edit Topic page and its gone!
Who can view my Topic?
This depends on which type of Topic you have created. Unless it is a Private Topic, any web user will be able to view your Topic. But only QuenchmarkTM users will be able to contribute to the topic.
How can I view Topics?
There are multiple ways of finding Topics:
- Hot Topics, to view the Topics with the most activity
- New Topics, to view the Topics created most recently
- Hot Questions, to view the questions with the most activity
- New Questions, to view the questions created most recently
- All Topics, to view all Topics in QuenchmarkTM
- My Topics, to view the Topics that you have created
- My Questions, to view the Topics with your Questions
- My Answers, to view the Topics with your Answers
- My Favorites, to view your favorite topics
- Search, find Topics specified by a keyword
- Filter, to find Topics by a specific category
3. Questions
How do I create a Question?
- Ensure you are logged in
- Select one of your Topics or an Unlimited Topic
- Select the "Questions & Answers" tab
- Select the "Add Question" button.
- Now, come up with a Question that will give you the knowledge you are seeking from your peers
- Select the Answer Type from the drop-down menu
- Use the hint if you are asking a Question with units. Asking how tall a group of people are won't be very useful if some answer in meters, and some in feet!
- Note that the maximum Question length is 150 characters, and the maximum hint length is 50 characters
- You can choose two more options for your question:
- Allowed to change answer
- Must answer question to view answers
- You can invite a group of friends to contribute to the question
- Don't forget to select the "Save" button!
What kind of Questions can I ask?
There are 12 different Answer types that can be specified by the Question Creator. They are:
- 5-Star Rating
- Alphabet (no space allowed)
- Alphabet (space allowed)
- Country
- Custom List
- Custom Picture List
- Date
- Decimal Numbers
- True/False
- Whole Numbers
- Yes/No
- Yes/No/Unsure
The Answer type must be indicated when creating the Question, and cannot be changed.
Why can't I add a Question to a Topic?
- It could be that it is a Limited Topic that only allows the Topic Creator to add Questions
- Ensure that the Topic is properly created before creating a Question
- Has the Topic expired? If so, no more Questions may be added
- Or, it could be that you are not logged in. Try logging out and back in to create the Question
Can I edit my Question?
No, unfortunately you have to ask another Question with your desired changes.
Can I delete a Question?
Yes, the Question Creator or the Topic Creator can delete the Question. All Answers will be lost, so backup the data prior to deleting. QuenchmarkTM is not responsible for any lost data due to deleted Questions.
4. Answers
How do I Answer a Question?
- Select the "Questions & Answers" tab of the Topic in which you would like to answer a Question
- Now, simply type your Answer into the "My Answer" field of the Question and select the "Save All" button at the top and bottom of the Topic section.
Can I update/delete my Answer?
Some questions have the option for the users to only answer once. If that option was not enabled you can edit your answer or remove it! To edit the answer simply re-enter your answer in the "My Answer" field and click the "Save All" button. To remove your answer check the "Remove Answer" box and click the "Save All" button.
Why can't I answer a Question?
First, check if the Topic has expired. If the Topic has expired, then you can still view the data, but you cannot answer the Question. Second, ensure that you are logged in. You must be logged in to answer Questions.
5. View Results
How do I view the results from a Question?
To view results:
- Once you have found a Question you would like to view the results from, select the graph icon on the top right corner
- This will take you to a new page with the results graphically represented for you
Why can't I view the results?
- Are you logged in? Try logging out and back in again
- Is the Question Private? If so, then only the Private members can view the Answers.
- Also, some results can only be viewed if you have answered the question first!
6. Profile Page
How do I edit my Profile?
First log in, and then select "My Profile" link on the left panel. Under the information on your profile page, select the "Edit Profile" button. Just remember, information you input can be seen by other users!
How do I add a picture to my Profile?
From the Edit Profile page, to add a picture, check the box that says "Picture to override default" and then select the "Update" button. On the next page you can upload the picture of your choice!
Will all my Topics be shown on my Profile page?
Only public Topics will be shown! The private Topics you have created will remain private and can be viewed from My Topics page.
How do I add a Topic to my Favorites?
Adding a Topic to your favorites has never been easier! Simply select the "My Favorites:" check box on one of the Topics and that's it! Same goes to removing Topics from your favorites. Just unselect the box and you're done.
7. Messages
How do I send a message to another Quenchmarker?
Navigate to the Profile Page of the user you would like to send a message to. Then, simply click the envelope icon at the top right corner of the Profile Page. A text box will appear in the profile page. Enter a subject and a message, then click the "Send" button!
Where do I check my messages?
Your messages can be viewed by clicking the "My Messages" link on the left panel. This will bring you to the My Messages page where you can view and reply to your messages.
8. Discussions
Select either the "Discussions" icon from the Topic Listing page or the "Discussions" tab within the Topic. Select a subject or add a new subject, then select the "Add Comment" button. A text box will appear, type your comment and click the "Save" button.
9. My Friends
How do I add a friend?
Navigate to your friend's profile page and check the box that reads "Add xxx to My Friends list" in the top left corner. Or fill in the three fields (Email, First Name, Last Name) and click on "Add" located just below the fields.
Can I add a friend who is not registered on Quenchmark yet?
Yes you can. In My Friends window, fill in the three fields (Email, First Name, Last Name) and click on "Add". Your friend will be updated on your list as soon as he/she registers with the invitation link.
How do I delete a friend?
There are two ways to remove a friend from your list.
- You can navigate to the profile page of the friend you want to delete and uncheck the "Add xxx to My Friends list" check box from the user's profile page.
- From your Friends list, click on the "Email / Username" to select the friend. To remove the contact click on the "Delete" button.
How do I invite friends to contribute to a topic or question?
There is an option to invite friends at the bottom of the Add Topic and Add Question pages.
10. My Groups
How do I add a group?
From the "My Group" section of My Friends page, click on the "Reset" button. Type in the name of the group you would like to create in the field and click on "Add" to add a new group.
How do I remove a group?
In the "My Group" section of My Friends page, select the group that you wish to remove and click on the "Delete" button.
Note, removing a group does not remove the friends.
How do I add a friend to a group?
Click on the username of your friend to autofill the fields below. Under the dropdown box select the group you wish to add your friend to and click the "Save" button.
Can I add a friend to multiple groups?
Yes you can. Each friend in your list of friends can belong to as many groups as you wish.
Can I move a friend from one group to another?
Yes you can. Add your friend to the desired group and then remove your friend from the previous group.
How do I view friends in a group?
Simply click on the group of friends you want to view under My Groups.
11. My Shared Groups
What is the difference between a shared group and a group?
A group is your own list of friends that is only used by you.
A shared group is a list of friends that are shared among the friends listed in the group.
How do I add a shared group?
Go through the same procedure to adding a regular group except click the "Shared Group of Friends" checkbox.
How do I add a friend to a shared group?
Follow the same procedure to add a friend to a regular group.
Can I add a friend to multiple shared groups?
Yes you can. This only applies to friends that are on your own private list. Friends from other shared groups may not be added to other groups/shared groups.
Can other users add friends to my shared group?
Yes they can if they are members of this shared group. But only the group creator has the right to remove friends from the shared group.
Will my friends be notified when I add them onto my friends list?
Only Quenchmark users that have been added to a shared group will be notified by email.
How do I view friends in a shared group?
Follow the same procedure to view friends in a regular group.
Why do I have friends on my list that I have not added?
They are friends from a shared group that you are listed in.
Can I delete a friend in my shared group?
Yes you can if you are the shared group creator.
